National Museum of the Pacific War - Pacific Combat Zone

Fredericksburg, Texas
Phase 1 of the major renovations planned for the Pacific Combat Zone was recently completed. Construction included a new visitor’s center, an orientation courtyard where visitors walk the Pacific Ocean on a floor installed map, and new exhibits featuring interactive A/V programs for the buildings. The PT Boat exhibit was designed so that when the visitor enters the exhibit they are in the interior cabinets of a Tender which were used by the Navy to repair, re-arm, and refuel PT Boats while at sea. Visitors are able to roam from cabin to cabin since each cabin had its own operation specific mission. The visitor will learn more about the Navy’s PT Boats which are, actually, unique wooden attack boats. The culmination of this experience is that the visitor walks out of the cabins onto the deck of the tender and looks over onto the PT Boat as it refuels and re-arms for deployment. It opened in March 2016.
