Brenham, Texas
The Simon Theatre is a theater in Brenham Texas constructed in 1925. For many decades the Simon Theatre provided the community with a setting for theatrical performances, vaudeville acts, ballroom dances, special events and movies. The Simon Theatre is recognized by The League of Historic American Theatres. After years of neglect, the Brenham Main Street Historical Preservation started in 2007 to transform the historic structure into a downtown visitor center. The Simon Theatre is part of the Brenham Downtown Historic District and an historical landmark on the National Register of Historic Places.
The vision for the Visitor Center was to provide residents, business people and tourists a destination for conferences and events, as well as a location to access information on regional attractions. A portion of the Visitor Center was set aside for the purpose of educating visitors on the various destinations in and around Brenham in a more dynamic environment than the traditional visitor center. The Center serves to encourage visitors to see other local, as well as regional, points of interests, as well as to educate the visitor on the history of the City of Brenham and the important roles it plays in today’s world.
